The article was most fascinating as was the movie, Temple Grandin. I have one concern, among many, about “spectrum disorders”. In this polypharmacy age where nearly everything with a label is medicated, we do run the risk of medicating those at the fringes of the spectrum, where medications may not be needed. Further, where do the fringes of the “psychopathology” spectrum, blend into variations or normalcy. Also, in the 2/10 issue of the NYTimes, they are once again “listing” symptoms with little attention to variations of normalcy and little attention to the ebbs and flows of normal development.
