One Comment on “Hagel orders retraining of sex-assault prevention officers; Army sergeant investigated”
Among my psychiatry mentors were Army Brig. Gen. Bill Menninger and Navy Capt. George Raines, both Chiefs of Psychiatry in their respective militaries. Bill was a genial and teacherly supervisor during my Psych. residency in Topeka, and George was my Washington boss during my 2-yr stint of active duty in
the Korean War. George and Will were both trained analysts, and George was very friendly and informal.
George tempted me strongly by offering me a top Naval Hospital job and Navy-supported analytic training if i transferred into regular Navy rank. but I never regretted my choice of discharge and return to academic and private practice. Frankly, I miss the fraternal atmosphere of the “Navy Nervous Doctors”, but I had other work to do. What all of this narcissistic display is about is where and to what extent a sound and pragmatic psa. influence comes to bear on the recent and current upsurge in sexual predation in our armed services? Does a sound neuropsychoanalytic stance play any role in what Sec. Hagel refers to as “retraining”? I certainly hope so.
