APA CALLS UPON CONGRESS TO OPPOSE AMERICAN HEALTH CARE ACT
xpresses concern to House leaders over Congressional Budget Office analysis

WASHINGTON — The American Psychological Association and its affiliated APA Practice Organization sent a letter to congressional leaders stating their opposition to the American Health Care Act after a Congressional Budget Office analysis projected that the bill, if enacted into law, could double the proportion of Americans without health insurance by 2026.

“We believe that any health care reform legislation to repeal and replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act considered by Congress should increase the number of Americans with coverage for mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment,” said the letter to Speaker of the House Paul (more…)

AAPCSW RESPONSE TO THE UNFOLDING EXECUTIVE ORDER – IMMIGRATION AND TRAVEL BAN

The American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work has deep concerns about President Trump’s executive order on immigration and the travel ban from seven majority Muslim countries. Although the subsequent legal process suspending the ban and the President’s vow to issue an alternative are ongoing and subject to change, many problems remain.

We are concerned about the intent and the manner of the Administration’s actions, not only because it fundamentally disregards basic human rights guaranteed by the Constitution. It is an offense to human dignity resulting from the relentless attribution of criminality. Moreover, by transforming immigrants into dangerous “others,” it contributes to their demonization. This experience affects the safety, health, and wellbeing of the individuals directly involved, their families, and the larger society.     (more…)
