Leadership Transitions: Joining and Leaving as Entry points impacting Organizational Performance

LOCATION: IPTAR Conference Room, 1651 Third Ave–Suite 205, bet E92nd & 93rd Streets, (4/5 trains to 86th St. or 6 to 96th St and Q train)

Learning Objectives:
1. Share and explore the processes of entry/joining as a new leader.
2. Understand and deepen learning on issues of leaders and executive exits and our personal experience when we join or leave an organization.
3. Learn from Dr. Yin’s model and frame of “natural entry points’ for significant change in systems and organizations.

Teaching and Learning Method: Case Presentation and Discussion
Participants will discuss and gain an understanding
from attendees experiences and also from cases from CFAR engagements in both public and private sectors to reflect and learn about their experience with leadership and with and consulting roles to managing/leadership roles that involve exit or entry from organizations.

Thomas Gilmore is Vice President of CFAR (Center for Applied Research), a consulting firm spun off from the Wharton School. He also serves as an adjunct associate professor in health care systems and a senior fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. His work has focused on leadership transitions, strategy and organizational change in a wide variety of sectors: private, non-profit, institutional, and government. Tom has worked extensively on strategy and organizational assignments in academic medicine, with schools, associations, and academic health centers. He is a founding member of the International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organizations and has written extensively, including Making a Leadership Change: How Organizations and Leaders Can Handle Leadership Transitions Successfully (Jossey Bass, 1989).

The Case Conference Series consists of presentations of applied material from an organizational consultation, executive coaching engagement, or presentation relevant to systems-psychodynamic thinking and practice. The format is interactive and all who attend are invited to participate.
IPTAR’s L.J.Gould Center is named for Lawrence Gould, a psychoanalyst, psychologist, Organizational Consultant and international figure in the discipline instrumental in designing and implementing Systems-Psychoanalytic work at IPTAR.

(1.5) CE credits will be granted to participants who have registered, have documented evidence of attendance of the entire program and have completed the on-line evaluation form.
