Overview: Freud’s case of the Wolf-Man (“From the History of an Infantile Neurosis, Freud, 1918) remains of great historical and theoretical importance. It introduced significant issues of the reconstruction of trauma, après coup, the infantile neurosis, the primal scene, and termination. Supplement by his own writing about his life and psychoanalysis, the case of the Wolf-Man is the longest study of an analytic patient in the literature. It continues to be re-interpreted as psychoanalytic thought evolves.
Learning Objectives:
1. To further knowledge about interpretation of childhood dreams and nightmares.
2. To convey understanding of the primal scene as fantasy and reality.
3. Considering effect of pre-oedipal problems on later developmental disorder.
