A new episode of “Psychoanalysis and You,” the official podcast of the American Psychoanalytic Association, is now available. In this episode, host Dr. Gail Saltz speaks with Dr. Amy Levy, clinical psychologist, psychoanalyst, and co-chair of APsA’s President’s Commission on Artificial Intelligence, about AI, mental health, and the growing question of whether AI could replace therapists.

Their conversation explores what the creation and appeal of AI may reveal about unconscious conflicts, human relationships, and the pressures shaping contemporary clinical life. Topics include:

• AI as a “new other” in psychological experience
• Risks of AI use in mental health care
• What psychoanalysts can contribute to public and professional conversations about AI
• Implications for clinicians, parents, and patients

We hope this episode sparks reflection and dialogue within the APsA community. You can watch the latest episode on YouTube or listen on whichever platform you use for podcasts.

Dr. Levy’s new book,The New Other: Alien Intelligence and the Innovation Drive, publishes in January 2026 (Karnac) and a virtual book launch event is on Sunday, January 18.

Cheers!
