As we approach our 10th anniversary Gala celebration, we want to share something we are especially excited about.
On Wednesday, July 22, the evening before the Gala, ROOM will host an in-person event at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR) in New York City. It is a rare opportunity to gather in the same room, to mark this milestone together, and to spend an evening in conversation with this year’s Coline Covington Award recipient, Professor Mark Solms. Tickets are available and presented upon registering for the ROOM 10th Anniversary Gala at the link below.
An Intimate Exchange with Mark Solms
July 22 | 8 pm | In-Person
IPTAR | 1651 3rd Ave #205, New York, NY 10128
In keeping with the theme of this year’s Gala, “What Drives Us”, Mark Solms will speak from his own experience, as a South African, a neuropsychoanalyst, and a landowner, about what drove him to reckon with the history of his family’s centuries-old farm and winery, and to transfer it back to Black ownership. Drawing on his own psychoanalytic thinking, he will trace how care, rage, and the seeking of another way shaped his decisions and how he understood them. His essay “In My Backyard,” published in ROOM 6.24, is the starting point for this conversation, and Mark will share an intimate account of what happens when analytic thinking meets inherited injustice.
Every ticket holder will receive a signed advanced copy of The Only Cure: Freud and the Neuroscience of Mental Healing.
This evening provides a rare opportunity for us to be in-person with one another in community, and in celebration of what ROOM has built over the past 10 years.
If you are in New York or can make it into the city, we would love to see you at IPTAR on July 22. Please note that only ROOM Gala registrants are able to attend the event. Registration is required by July 9th.
ROOM 100 Leadership Circle Members receive complimentary access to both events and we will reach out directly with more information on registration.
