All About My Mother by Pedro Almodóvar Lecture & Movie

If psychoanalysis is an impossible profession, being a mother is the most impossible role to get right. The movie examines motherhood in a time of gender fluidity and the challenges it poses.

Arlene Kramer Richards, EdD, is a training and supervising analyst with the Contemporary Freudian Society (CFS) and the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA). In addition, she is a faculty member at CFS, the American Institute for Psychoanalysis, and Tongi Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China where she developed the Wuhan China Psychotherapy Program. She is a member of the Board of the American Psychoanalytic Association and IPA. Dr. Richards’ psychoanalytic writings help clarify issues of female development as she explores perversion, loneliness and the internal world of artists and poets. She has written extensively on these topics and is the co-editor of Encounters with Loneliness: Only the Lonely which won the Gradiva Award in 2014. Her recent book Psychoanalysis: Listening to Understand is a compilation of her selected works. Dr. Richards is in private practice in Manhattan.
