Ellen Marakowitz, PhD, LP, is a member of IPTAR. At IPTAR, she is on the faculty of the Respecialization Program, is on the Board of Directors and the Institute Board, and also supervises candidates. She is a member of the faculty of the Department of Anthropology at Columbia University where she is the Director of the Master’s Program in Anthropology.
Asylum and Separation: A New Birth
In this paper Dr. Marakowitz explores how the forced separation of an asylum seeker from their home country was reflected through various separation processes and conflicts. Parallel elements of personal and familial history were linked in the journey toward legal asylum. The intersection of home country, new country, old and new friends, and the therapeutic alliance in the treatment all played a role in the separation process.

(2) CE credits will be granted to participants who have registered, have documented evidence of attendance of the entire program and have completed the on-line evaluation form.
