OPEN HOUSE LUNCHEON & CLINICAL PRESENTATION FOR THOSE CONSIDERING POSTGRADUATE TRAINING
Wednesday, March 14, 2018 1:00 PM –2:30 PM
SHE CAN’T SAY “NO”

The powerful challenges of treating a middle-aged, self-effacing, masochistic woman who tended to be a doormat in relationships will be described with a focus on the many trials such a treatment presented. The therapy lasted for two and a half years with a disappointing outcome and illustrates the dyad’s enactments and some of the difficulties of working with a highly defended, “neurotic” patient.

Learning Objectives: Participants will understand how masochistic traits and depressive affects: 1) serve as a reaction formation against aggression, 2) unconsciously keep people connected for narcissistic gratification, and 3) preserve an image of self defending against separation and loss.

PRESENTER: Deborah Fader, LCSW. Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Adult Program. Supervising Social Worker: Lenox Hill Neighborhood House. External Supervisor: Columbia University School of Social Work.

LOCATION: 160 West 86th Street (outside entrance, between Amsterdam & Columbus Avenues)
RSVP: Space is limited. There is no fee but you must reserve in advance. For reservations: please contact Ivy Vale, Registrar, at (212) 496-2858 or email mitppnyc@aol.com.
