We will study the difference between signifier and letter without overlooking the sign, a notion Lacan rethought at various points of his teaching. Particular attention will be paid to their relation to the act of speech and the subject of language.

Alain Vanier is a psychoanalyst and psychiatrist in Paris, emeritus professor of Université Paris 7 Diderot, a faculty member of Après-Coup, and the author, in English translation, of the monograph Lacan (Other Press, 2000).

Continuing Education
Three (3) CE credits will be granted to Licensed Social Workers and Licensed Psychoanalysts who have registered, have documented evidence of attendance of the workshop, and complete the evaluation form. Upon completion of the evaluation form, a Certificate of Completion will be emailed to all participants who comply with these requirements. Credits cannot be given for partial attendance.

1) Differentiate the modes of inscription of the elements of the unconscious
2) Identify the Lacanian notion of the letter and its function in treatment
3) Describe the Lacanian hypothesis of early development in relation to the notions of the sign and object
