Many businesses begin their journey as partnerships. People are often caught off guard  how tricky and challenging partnership relationships can be.  Using results from research interviews from failed partnerships, as well as  case material, this presentation will explore the vicissitudes and complex psychodynamic underpinning of partnership structures.

Sharon Horowitz. PhD is an Organizational Psychologist and Practitioner, and specializes in systemic change and transition management within the financial services sector. She has over 20 years of experience advising

CEO’s and C-suite executives and their teams in privately held and publicly traded companies.  Her consulting and research interests include the psychology of investment risk taking, psychodynamics of leadership and team creativity, and partnership relationships in all phases of the growth cycle and Mergers and Acquisitions.

Teaching and Learning Method:
Case Vignette and Group Discussion in seminar format.
Key Topics:

The psychological requirements for productive partnerships will be discussed within the context of the business’ growth trajectory.
Defensive partnership structures will be illustrated, as well as interventions that can unlock stand-offs and impasses, including “breaking up” while keeping the business in tact.

Learning Objectives:

To foster new thinking and insights regarding partnerships, and hypotheses as to when partnerships are not the ideal structure for the leadership of the firm.

The Case Conference Series consists of presentations of applied material from an organizational consultation, executive coaching engagement, or presentation relevant to systems-psychodynamic thinking and practice.  The format is interactive and all who attend are invited to participate.

The Gould Center is named for Lawrence Gould, a psychoanalyst, psychologist, Organizational Consultant and international figure in the discipline instrumental in designing and implementing Systems-Psychoanalytic work at IPTAR.
