Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association presents

WORKSHOP

The Real, or the Impossible, in Lacan’s Four Discourses with Jean-Michel Vappereau Saturday, September 22, 2018
10:30 am – 1:00 pm; 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm The School of Visual Arts 136 West 21st Street, New York, NY

The writing of the four discourses implies the writing of something impossible, the effect of an impossible combination between letters and places that mathematically upsets a notion of harmony and perfection in the social domain. This writing conveys the particularity of psychoanalytic ethics, which deals with imbalances, with limitations, with things that do not work or fit — aiming at a practice of reading, of choices and responsibility.

Suggested Readings: Lacan: “Allocution sur l’enseignement” (1970), in Autres écrits.

Jean-Michel Vappereau is a psychoanalyst and director of seminar on psychoanalysis and topology in Buenos Aires; faculty member, Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association; author of Étoffe, Nœud, and Lu.

Fee: $25; students with ID, $15

Attendance is free for annual subscribers to Après-Coup as well as for the faculty and students of the School of Visual Arts.
