CLINICAL ISSUES IN WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
IN AND APART FROM COVID 19 TIMES CEU-Approved Online 4-sessions
TUESDAYS, JUNE 9, 16, 23, 30      5:00 – 6:00 PM Open ONLY to those working with children and/or adolescents.

PRESENTER: ALLEN PRENNER, LCSW-R

Clinicians working with children and adolescents have always had to deal with special issues. However, during these days of shelter-in-place, the anxieties and realities of both patient and therapist are unique and unprecedented, even if those facing the therapist are different from those of the patient.  This group will help clinicians negotiate the new challenges. The focus will be on understanding and working with them, addressing them technically, exploring transference and countertransference, and figuring out how to navigate this new era, where teletherapy prevails.

This group will offer the opportunity for supervision from an experienced supervisor as well as from peer clinicians on child and adolescent patients.  The group will meet for four sessions with the opportunity to extend to more.

Learning Objectives
Participants will 1) better understand child and adolescent anxieties in the Pandemic,
2) better understand therapist anxieties in the Pandemic, and 3) learn how to intervene with children and adolescents during shelter-in-place and beyond.

ALLEN PRENNER,  LCSW-R Certificate in Clinical Counseling, Postgraduate Center for Mental Health. He has practiced for over thirty years, including eleven years on the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service of Mount Sinai Hospital.
