How might psychoanalysis approach the increasing demands for transsexualization? Among crucial issues rarely discussed: the role of homophobia, and scientific belief in the sexual relation; the role of hysteria and its questioning of sexual difference; the nature of children’s identification processes; the role of social networks in spreading modern hysterical epidemics.

Marco Antonio Coutinho Jorge is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, the director of Corpo Freudiano in Rio de Janeiro and faculty member at Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association. He is also a professor at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, a member of the Société Internationale d’Histoire de la Psychiatrie et de la Psychanalyse, and the author of many books on the foundations of psychoanalysis.
Natália Pereira Travassos is a psychologist, psychoanalyst, and member of Corpo Freudiano in Rio de Janeiro. She volunteers at Grupo Arco Iris de cidadania LGBTI+ and is the  co-author of Transexualidade: o corpo entre o sujeito e a ciência (Ed. Zahar, 2018).
